Slovenia: Introducing Iris Pevka ("Na Izi")

Admit it: you're dying for a fashion-forward fresh face from Slovenia. Ok, maybe not, but today, you'll get one in the form of Iris Pevka. Keep in mind we are grading on a curve here...Slovenia is one of the smallest music markets in Europe. "Na Izi" was released late last month and shows off the new talent nicely via a nice-looking promo, which was shot in and around Ljubljana's Tivoli Park and Town Hall. Niko Karo directed the clip and according to the singer, "Na Izi" is a "message song." The message? That we all should "take time for each other." Iris also adds of the tune's meaning: "Despite the hard times we have no choice but to continue to believe and hope in a better tomorrow and that we must be good people first, and then comes everything else." We happen to agree with that. Check the new promo below followed by a basically unseen (only around 1000 views) English language debut by Iris from late 2011 called "Can You Feel It." Fresh Face For A New Month: Meet Slovenian Electropop Queen April

April is here. How appropriate, then, that we are among the first (if not the first) blog in America to share Slovenian singer April's new video for a song called "My Facebook Song." The track (which apparently is getting a release in Spain) is an English version of her Slovenian "Ujeta Na Netu," which translates to "caught in the 'net" and is also about being online too much and not experiencing the joys of offline love. From her own bio on April's website: "Those who have already heard it put on the nickname 'Slovenian Lady Gaga.' April says whilst this flatters, she stresses that [she] is nevertheless different from it." Actually I prefer April to Lady Gaga. I'd re-word that bio to say "Lady Gaga is the American version of Slovenia's April." Check out the new Niko Karo-directed clip below (both the English version and the Slovenian).

Slovenia: Forget Ke$ha's "Tik Tok," Get Down With Nina Puslar's "Tik Tak Tok"

Had my eye on Slovenia's Nina Puslar for a while now and she just released a new clip earlier this month for an energetic dance/pop song called "Tik Tak Tok" that's rather good. The tune seems to be a special offering for Dance Republic, which is Slovenia's answer to Holland-based promoters ID&T (they do big EDM dance parties like "Tomorrowland" in Belgium) or America's Insomniac Events (they do EDC in Las Vegas). But as anyone who has heard Nina before knows, the girl has a pop heart, so the song below is a dance song and a pop song (really the best kind, right?). Two years ago, Nina performed at one of Dance Republic's events and now the company has repayed the favor via helping produce the video you'll see below. It's girls night out in Slovenia, y'all! Get your pop on, and your rave on, below. Dance Republic takes place 6/22 in Ljubljana.

Slovenia: Sanja Grohar Drops "Club Star"

It's about time we heard something new from Sanja Grohar. The Slovenian singer, model and TV personality won the Miss Slovenia competition in 2005 and even took the title of 'Best Playmate' in the Slovenian edition of Playboy a few years ago. Today, she released a new video for a song called "Club Star" (w/ Baby Noel) and there's an odd Sci-Fi theme running through it! Or at least satellites and space probes make cameos, for some reason. Anyway, like this song, which has both a club and pop feel. The last time we checked in with the singer it was re: her 2010 hit "Ogenji." Check out her latest, shot in Spain and directed by Manel Andilla, below.

Synth-Soaked Slovenia Turns The "Tide"

Slovenia can't get enough of the synthesizer, and for this we can all be thankful. Ljubljana's Tide are active like they haven't been in a while, which is saying something for an act that has produced 8 videos over their career so far. Apart from holding the top spot with their hit single "Adieu" recently on the Slovenian national TV Videochart, they've also released a new promo for a great new song called "Hard to Love." The video was shot at various locations in the city center of Ljubljana over the summer and boasts an 80s feel (and sound). Similarly, Slovenia's Torul recently dropped a great synth-soaked track called "In Whole" that also takes a bit of inspiration from the best 1980s acts (Depeche Mode etc). Both videos are below. I'm now forever on team Slovenia, by the way, if anyone asks.
