Beograd's Best Band? Meet S.A.R.S.
Belgrade is home to many sultry singers and great DJ's, as this blog has chronicled, but the city is also home to some interesting bands. S.A.R.S is one such act and they recently debuted a wild video, "Perspektiva." In the clip, we see a hot Serbian woman wander the streets of Belgrade from her perspective while she's drunk with a bottle of Jack Daniels in her hand (she'd fit right in in Los Angeles, by the way, and we welcome her with open arms should she ever decide to come). Anyway, this is a relentless and upbeat (cautionary) drinking anthem which I can't stop listening to today. Check it below.
MC Stojan Drops Serbian "Ass" Anthem
In America, if you want an ass anthem, you're going to go with Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back." In Serbia, now DJ's have another choice: MC Stojan's "Kakva Guza." Today Stojan released an outrageous yet fun video for the song, after some technical problems "getting it up" (ha) a few days ago when it was supposed to drop. The song title translates to "what an ass" or "what a behind" and it's probably kind of funny if you speak Serbian. The video? Well, it's a low budget affair. But we have power tools! We have ass aplenty and we have a pretty good song to back it all up. From the "Sexy" rapper's wikipedia page: "Stojan's songs are usuallly full of lyrics about sex or eating." Enough said! Check out his latest below.
Serbia: DJ Shone's Epic "Beograd" Clip
Belgrade-based DJ Shone has just released a video that is getting huge play today in Serbia. This clip for "Beograd" looks like a movie and it's one with a pretty good soundtrack (with vocals by Anabela and also Elitni Odredi). Shone is a fairly well known name in this part of Europe, having appeared in almost every club in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as a years-long residency at seaside clubs in Montenegro. He's also played in Switzerland and a few other countries in Europe, but this video and song may well take him to another level. See why below.
Serbia: Ana Kokic Goes "Psycho" In Clip
The world really needs more pop stars like Ana Kokic. Last month, she released a video that was pretty good ("Idemo Na Sve") but already she's back with a new, better clip: "Psiho." The word translates to "psycho" in Serbian (and a few other eastern European languages, too) and as you'll see below she goes nuts! Love this promo, which has a slightly noir-ish feel (any video with a vintage typewriter gets my approval). Check out the latest (dropped today) from Ana below (directed by Dejan Milicevic).
Amadeus' Epic Serbian Period Piece Video
It's official. Belgrade-based Visual Infinity (they were behind Dunja Ilic's recent series of clips) are producing the best music videos in Serbia and they are getting to the point where they are doing some of the best clips in all of Europe. Case in point? This new promo by a band I hadn't heard of until today, Amadeus (they have been around for a decade or so). "Nije Svejedno" is just incredible-looking, with an Edwardian-era carnival/circus vibe and an epic storyline straight out of a Hollywood movie. But let's make it clear why this clip rules: they have a fucking real bear in this video. Also, some surprisingly well done effects at the end. Check it below (thanks Vlad for the tip).
