Portugal: Diego Miranda Meets Antonio In São Paulo For "Take Your Time" Clip
You know who's really good and doesn't get enough love in Europe? Lisbon-based DJ Diego Miranda. You know where he does get love? Brazil. Accordingly, the producer/DJ went to South America late last year and early this year to tour and also to film a clip in São Paulo with Antonio Eudi, who is "considered one of the greatest names of musical production in Brazil," per his own bio. The pair also looped in a singer named "D'Queen," who sings "Take Your Time" in English. Really a nice house track, check it below.
Pitch Perfect Portugal: Mastiksoul's Magnificent New House/Pop Anthem
You won't read about this one on any other U.S. EDM blogs (yet) but trust us: Mastiksoul's new single is perhaps the best male vocal house/pop hybrid of the year so far and comes not from Holland or Sweden, but from Portugal. Speaking of Holland, however, DJ Chuckie helped out with the song below, "Forever," yet it bears all the hallmarks of a Mastiksoul production. That means house music with a pop edge, and a killer instinct for what clubbers in Europe and radio listeners in Spain and Portugal want to hear right now (check his excellent "When I Fall In Love" from 2010 for proof). Anyway, this brand new video has a Mad Max theme (!) and features a cameo from EU soccer stars Luis Nani and Miguel Veloso. Those players will be key for Portugal's National Team for Euro 2012 this summer and the tune below may end up as their anthemic rallying call. Great vocals by Dada (aka Matt Schwartz) as well. Check out the hot track/clip below. Big like!
Portugal: Santamaria's Summer Plan...."Let's Go To Afrika" (New Clip)
So Portugal's Santamaria are back. They have a new disc called Let's Dance and the first single is called "Let's Go To Afrika." Love the relentless summer vibe of this song, which comes across as Black Eyed Peas meets Don Omar, or something. This act is better known as a more traditional Eurodance outfit, but since everyone else is rolling out their summer singles right about now, why not a beach-y summer jam from Santamaria? After all, Portugal can feel like summer all year 'round. Check out the latest from the six-member crew, around since 1998 (per the band's bio, they have sold over 500,000 albums the past decade and performed over 500 concerts "from the north to the south of Portugal, as well as abroad").
Portugal: Meet Miúda (New "Com Quem Eu Quero" Clip)
Here's an intersting new project from Portugal named Miúda. The act is a duo fronted by a woman (Mel) with a "German education," per broadcaster RTP, who premiered the clip today. "Com Quem Eu Quero" (translates to "Who We Want" or similar) is pretty catchy and RTP also goes on to say at their official site that the singer is "never revealed in full," in the video below, "giving it a certain mystery, a characteristic that accompanies the project since its beginning." Optimus Discos is putting this out and what you'll hear and see below represents a promising new sound out of Lisbon. Check it out below (directed by Lisbon-based Hong Kong Triad).
Portugal Meets Romania: Anda Adam + Kourosh's "Can U Feel Love" Clip
Here's an interesting pairing: Lisbon's Kourosh Tazmini and Romania's Anda Adam. Together the two have made a track called "Can U Feel Love" and today a video for the track debuted via Germany's Kontor records. Germans aren't exactly feeling it, if you go by the unreliable but sometimes indictative metric of the massive amount of "thumbs down" given on the clip. But the song actually grows on you after repeated listens. Anyway, I find this pairing fascinating and like this tune better than Adam's last single, "Panda Bear" (but not as much as her "Show Me," which I loved).
