Portugal Meets Romania: Anda Adam + Kourosh's "Can U Feel Love" Clip
Here's an interesting pairing: Lisbon's Kourosh Tazmini and Romania's Anda Adam. Together the two have made a track called "Can U Feel Love" and today a video for the track debuted via Germany's Kontor records. Germans aren't exactly feeling it, if you go by the unreliable but sometimes indictative metric of the massive amount of "thumbs down" given on the clip. But the song actually grows on you after repeated listens. Anyway, I find this pairing fascinating and like this tune better than Adam's last single, "Panda Bear" (but not as much as her "Show Me," which I loved).
Portugal: Best Version Of "Ai Se Eu Te Pego" (New Video Of Song Sweeping EU)
So have you guys been following the massive success of "Ai Se Eu Te Pego?" The tune has been exploding at iTunes all over Europe this winter, no matter what countries' charts you look at. "Ai Se Eu Te Pego" became extremely popular in Spain and all over Europe after Real Madrid soccer players Marcelo Vieira/Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated a goal dancing to the choreography of the song, which is actually Brazilian. Michel Telo's version of the song is the most popular but there are many other versions in multiple EU countries now (even Inna covered it). But the best, campiest version might be Hallux's take on the tune, which is a Euroclub interpretation on the track, and there's now a brand new video from the Portugal-based DJ/remixer. It's high eurotrash to the nth degree!
Lisbon Meets Berlin: Moullinex's Maniac
Well this is awesome. Lisbon-born producer Moullinex has teamed up with Berlin-based fixture Peaches for a cover of Michael Sembello's "Maniac" from the soundtrack of 80's film Flashdance. And there's a video! Pay attention, people. After the Drive soundtrack won over the world, the hunger for 1980's sounds has never been stronger. This track is pretty good, just a shame we don't get to see Peaches in the clip rocking a leotard. (h/t jenesaispop)
Best Portugal Music Videos 2011: Top 3
Portugal lags behind its neighbors when it comes to music video production, but that doesn't mean the music was any less inspired. A few great clips dropped in 2011 and here are some of the best below. Diego Miranda had a productive year and I've already written a few times about his pop collaboration with Ana Free ("Girlfriend") on this blog. But earlier this year his clip for "Speed" blew away almost everyone who saw it. A highly entertaining, fast-moving clip. On the artier side we have Moullinex's "Sunflare" promo, which is hypnotic. Finally, a song and clip that dropped in late 2010 but charted well into 2011 was Mastiksoul and Angélico Vieira's soulful and catchy "When I Fall In Love."
Portugal: Ana & Diego Drop "Girlfriend"
Here we go, people. A song I've been behind for months has finally gotten an official video and it's about time. "Girlfriend," by Ana Free (from Portugal but currently living in London) and DJ Diego Miranda (Lisbon-based) is the most underrated hit of 2011 laying in wait, begging for label love or a few radio outlets to get behind the offering. Great song, great sound and I can only hope this somehow becomes the hit it deserves to be in 2012. Check out the just-released clip below. Love this tune!
