Moldova's Anna Lesko Decides To "Go Crazy" And Film New Video In Thailand
Yes, people, now this is what we want from a summer-specific music video: vapid Europop with a catchy chorus and nearly naked women. Anna Lesko (born in Moldova and now mostlty known in Romania) decided to hit the beaches of Thailand here with director Alex Ceausu, and let's be glad they went. The clip was shot over three days in Bangkok and at five other Thai islands, including Phi Phi, the beautiful island where a few years ago, Leonardo DiCaprio filmed scenes from "The Beach." But surey the best behind-the-scenes gossip about this promo is that Anna was apparently bitten by a monkey (later fortunately vaccinated, according to musicnews.ro) whilst filming the video below. Anyway, liking this tune, which recalls early Inna in parts. Check it below.
Moldova: Dara Debuts Eurovision Clip "Open Your Eyes"
So Dara (real name Nicoleta Darabani) has released an official video for "Open Your Eyes", a song that has qualified for the finals of Eurovision Moldova 2012 (to be held on March 11th). The song was produced by Eugene Doibani with a couples-friendly video directed by Serge Zanoaga. The main roles in the video are played by none other than Dara herself and Edward Istrati. According to this blog, this is not only Dara's first music video but also "Open Your Eyes" is a brand of perfume the singer has launched? Take that, Britney Spears! Girls in Moldova don't need "Curious" to smell good, they can just wear "Open Your Eyes." The mildly saucy clip below features kissing, hugging, making of pottery a la Patrick Swayze in 'Ghost' and kittens. For fuck's sake, cute kittens, people.
Moldova: Diana Grigor Drops "Tonight"
What's in the water in Moldova? A hunger to gain as much recognition as Romania now has abroad as a place where epic pop/dance hybrids come from. The latest salvo fired is Diana Grigor's "Tonight." The song is relentlessly catchy with distinct Eastern European modalities paired with Western pop writing sensibilities. The video for the track was uploaded today. Really a top quality production (minus some awkward lyrics) all around from Moldova (this song was a Eurovision Song Contest pre-selection for 2012 in Moldova but not sure it made the cut to be in the just revealed list of finalists).
Moldova: Katy Rain Debuts "Mystery" Clip
It's official: my favorite Moldovan singer is Katy Rain. I wrote about the Chișinău cutie last year when she dropped her excellent song/clip for "Boy" and now she's back with another single, "Mystery." Released today, the video is an attempt to gain a wider international audience for Katy and it just might work. Once again, the songwriter/producer behind the track is Andrew Tostogan. If you like Inna or Alexandra Stan, Katy Rain is a slightly less sunny version. She's an underrated talent, in my opinion. Check Katy and Andrew's latest below....chances are she won't remain a "mystery" much longer.
Sax-Playing Santa In Debut Dramba Clip
Think the holidays are over? Not yet, friends. Moldova is home to epic sax guy and this country loves the saxophone. Accordingly, there's a sax playing Santa Claus in this new today video from Moldovan group Dramba. The song is called "Vine Anul Nou" (translates to "new year comes") and if this tune is any indication, 2012 will be a new wave kind of new year. Anyway, I have a secret crush on Dramba's singer Adriana Volosenco and this whole clip is just kind of adorable, especially at the end when Santa gets his groove on with the kids. Swear to God this is the last X-mas related post of 2011.
