Merry (Macedonian) Xmas: Sam Na Snegot
One last Christmas post today. Hristijan Todorovski didn't win Macedonian Idol this year, but he sure knows how to win the hearts of young women in Skopje. The dude is like some kind of junior Bruno Mars in training, or something, and he's in a romantic mood this Christmas, as you'll see in the clip below. But why does it seems to be snowing only where he is? Three cheers for fake FYR snow this season, everyone! Not a bad song, actually. Check it out below.
Macedonia Meets Montenegro In New Clip
So Aleksandra Bucevac is from Montenegro. Elena Petreska is from FYROM (Macedonia). They two ladies recently got together in Bitola, FYROM, to film this awesome video for their "Ne Ostavljam Trag" and I can't stop watching it today. The promo was directed by Dario Jankovic, who shoots like 1000 videos a year, or something (does he ever stop working?) but stands out because of the strong song, written by Hari Kotlarovski. No idea what they are singing about...all I know is I really want to party with these girls. Elena reveals in this story that the Macedonian version of this song will not get video because the Serbian language version of the video (seen below) would be more "effective" from a marketing perspective. Have a look at the clip below...fun video, good song.
France, Macedonia Do All-Star Videos
Do you guys remember "We Are The World?" That was America's chance to give to Africa in a charitable way via music stars singing in an all-star video. Now, the U.S. is broke, so it's up to France and Macedonia to step in. Today, French megastars released a clip for a tune called "Les Richochets" as a UNICEF charity effort which features some big names from Paris, including Shy'M, Jenifer, Jane Birkin, M Pokora and many more (over 40 singers). Similarly, Macedonian all-stars recently released a video in the same vein, though it's not immediately clear what they are raising money for (it seems more like Macedonian all-stars are getting their patriotism on, but I think that clip is also a fundraiser of some sort). See both clips below.
Macedonia's Mafia Queen: Viktorija Loba
Think men run the Macedonian mafia? Think again, friends, because Viktorija Loba (Викторија Лоба) is running things in this new promo for "Sloboda." Loba is so hardcore in this video and it goes without saying she could probably beat the crap out of Lady Gaga in an actual fight. It's hard to find much information about Loba online except that she was a junior Eurovision participant for Macedonia back in 2003. But that little girl is all grown up now, as you'll see in the clip below. Comforting to know they still use dollars instead of Euros as the currency of choice when it comes to crime in Skopje.
Skopje's Summer Hit: "Najdobro Do Sega"
Elena i Lambe is a Macedonian duo consisting of Elena Risteska (Елена Ристеска) and Lambe Alabakoski. Together they released this fun single that seems to be a hit in Skopje with young pop fans this summer. Elena's been around a long time and had a big kitsch-y You Tube smash a few years ago with her "Milioner" (or "Millionaire"). She also represented Macedonia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, held in Athens with the song "Ninanajna," which finished 12th place. Lambe has also been around a long time: He became famous when he won Play: Search For A New Star 2004. Check out their latest below, releaesd last month.
