The Next Rytmus: Meet Ostrava's guNy
God damn this is good. A Czech rapper is gunning for Rytmus' Czech/Slovak rap throne, and looks like he might take it, and soon. This guy goes by the name of guNy and it looks like he's about to be famous, as the hook of his hot song "Dreams" says over and over. guNy is from the third largest city in the Czech Republic, Ostrava, and looks like his new today clip was shot there. All I know is that this song and clip are heating up the CZ this month and deservedly so....really a great song that any U.S. rapper of note would kill to go in on (nice production as well). Check it.
Mista Debuts "Never Hide" Video
New Euro videos can "Never Hide" from europopped. Moments ago, Slovakian singer (who now lives in Prague) Mista unveiled her latest clip and it's yet another 1990's looking (and sounding) slice of Europop goodness. The Sony signed artist won me over last year with her epic "Rock It (United)" and now she hopes to generate the same excitement in 2012 with "Never Hide." This song is not quite as good as "Rock It," sadly, but it's still very strong for Slovakia and catchy enough to make an impact at radio. Have a look and listen below to an artist making waves in pop circles from Prague to Bratislava below.
Best Czech Music Video Ever? Xindl X's Amazing New "Nejlepší Kuchař" Clip
This is seriously great. Czech artist Xindl X is quickly becoming known as the guy from Prague who makes the most epic music videos, ever (see his "Chemie" from 2010 for proof). His latest is "Nejlepší Kuchař" and it's yet another winner, this time with a Prohibition theme. "The idea of the clip refers to a Czech pub, where as soon as one comes, confronts him beer, and when they order something else, so strange faces and say that they are not tea," he told Evropa 2. The rest of the clip is just insane, with a fun storyline, baths, murder and general awesomeness all around. Really catchy pop song, too, that might make Maroon 5 fans happy. Check out one of the better looking Czech music videos in recent memory below. File under win.
"Saturday Night" In Prague With Mad Skill
Damn this guy is good. Prague's Mad Skill is back with a brand new video for "Saturday Night" and already I can't stop raping the replay button. I wrote about his "Good Vibration" earlier this year (and even chose it as one of the best Czech clips of 2011) but he has raised his game significantly here with "Saturday Night." The song features Hi-Def, who has been on tracks from another awesome DJ/producer of note from Prague, DJ Wich. Check out the latest from Mad Skill below. Really tight.
Best In Czech: Top 3 CZ Music Clips 2011
Who wants to go to Prague? Everybody, that's who. In 2011 some people's only window into the Czech Republic was via music videos. Luckily, there were some good ones. First up is Toxique's vastly under rated "Field Lines," which dropped in April (amazing song). Next up was a song and video that actually managed to gain some traction outside of the CZ, Verona's retro-swing pop clip for their "Hey Boy" (excellent art direction in that video). Last but not least is a producer who has been making huge waves in 2011, Prague's Mad Skill. His "Good Vibration" (with equally hot Majk Spirit) samples Marky Mark (I know, but trust me, it's good) and is very accessible, even for non hip-hop fans. Check out all three videos below.
