Curious Croatia: Ella Dvornik's Medieval Pop/Rock ("Rođeni U Krivo Vrijeme" Clip)
Here's a curious clip from Croatia's Ella Dvornik that's climbing MTV's most-watched clips list in the Balkans. The video features hot time traveling girls from Zagreb. They start the video back in time to say, oh, maybe the 14th century. Luckily, they remembered to bring their makeup, mostly because (I think) a cosmetics company helped pay for the clip. Anyway, these wormholes are excellent and they totally allow the girls to slip comfortably back to their apartment, where they can safely watch TV. But what's on TV sucks these days (I agree)! The news is totally a bummer. So they go back to the middle ages (good choice, hotter guys, better outfits). Why are they dressed like cats at the end? No idea but it's all kinds of awesome. Check it out below
Crushing On Croatia: Zanamari + Maja
What's in the water in Croatia that makes female pop stars so beautiful? It remains a mystery. But let's get past Severina a bit and delve into two singers of note from the country atop nearly everyone's "must travel to" list in 2012. First up is a singer named Žanamari Lalić, who I've covered before on this blog, but now she fronts a band called J'Animals. Late last year they dropped a clip for a song called "Kreten Pomalo" and I've been hooked on it for months. The Zagreb-based beauty is just about the best thing going in Croatia lately...check out her latest below. Also included in this post is a slightly less serious clip from Maja Šuput that I've included A.) because she is drop dead gorgeous (just like Žanamari) but also B.) because the promo for "Nevaljala" is outrageous (lots of yachts and helicopters...it's the only way to travel between islands in the summer for locals...that look like Maja, anyway).
Croatian Christmas: Connect's "Božićnica"
Merry Christmas, everyone. Think Croatia is only fun in the summertime, when island beaches come alive? Think again. Apparently winter is when the real fun begins for locals. Connect's "Božićnica" was sent into me by a Europopped reader and it's a festive romp through a snowy scene, set to a soulful soundtrack. This clip is from last year and judging by the trio's now dormant website it seems they have broken up, which is a shame as they sure knew how to get into the holiday spirit. They told MTV last year "most of our friends [are in the clip] because we wanted to evoke a real Christmas atmosphere...we decided to make a very merry Christmas and rhythmic song that could serve as a tool for good Christmas party." There you have it, friends. Let the X-mas fun begin, Zagreb-style, below.
Croatia: Feminnem Debut New Video
Ok one more clip tonight. Croatia's awesome Feminnem, two time veterans of Eurovision (Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2005 and Croatia in 2010) released a new song and video for "Subota Bez Tebe" yesterday and it's really quite good. The song boasts a more contemporary club feel, which is a good look for the act who have already done their fair share of pop ballads. This is the first single from the group's fourth studio album. Watch Nika Antolos, Pamela Ramljak and Neda Parmać get their groove on below. Song by Branimir Mihaljevic and clip directed by Tomislav Povic.
Croatia: Lollobrigida Drop "Sex On TV" Clip
This is awesome. One of my favorite acts from Croatia, Lollobrigida, today released a video for their new single "Sex On TV, Sex On The Radio" and it pops with color. Who wants to see singer Ida Prester and her bandmates molest mannequins for fun? Just about everyone. I wrote about this band last year and I wish more bands from Zagreb would adopt their brand of indie rock/electropop, which is refreshing and a lot of fun. The clip was directed by Timy Šarec (with an art direction assist by Ivan Badanjak). Love.
