Balkan Beats: Dado & Stojan's Ferrari Pop
Well what do we have here? Oh, just four of the biggest names going in the Balkans getting together to drive Ferraris. Dado Polumenta, Yankoo, DJ Mladja and MC Stojan all got together earlier this year to record "Ja Volim Balkan" and last month they released a video for the track. Sure, it's ridiculous, but so are most American rap videos, so why not pretend the Ferraris are theirs instead of rented? Once again, looks like this clip was partially financed by Swiss nightclub JIL, which hosts big Balkan music parties in Zurich. I wrote about Dado and Stojan several times before on this blog. Yankoo and Mladja are new to me. Good upbeat track below.
Anabela & Mirko Fight Serbian "Paparazzi"
Last month, Serbian singers Anabela Đogani and Mirko Gavrić released a clip for "Paparazzi" and it's not anything like Lady Gaga's take on the song. Instead, we have an odd yet fun video showcasing the pair (Anabela used to be part of Funky G!) as they battle paps just after they get married. In the clip, they view actual Serbian gossip websites such as Svet online and for some reason I think this video was financed by a Swiss nightclub that features top Balkan talent (Jil Club). Anyway, I really like this song even if the video is a bit low budget. Check it below.
Dado: Bosnia's New Pimpin' Prince Of Pop
This guy Dado Polumenta is too much. I wrote about him once before, but he just released a new video and it's out of control. "Nije Od Karmina" shows the singer decked out in white (pimp suit, ladies, watch out!) while checking out the extras in the clip. But the thing is, this tune is actually much better than a lot of stuff coming out of Bosnia and Montenegro these days. The best part of this fresh-sounding track is the middle of the song, when, inexplicably, there's an electro-house breakdown that sounds straight out of a Benny Benassi track. Must hear (check the 1:56 mark).
Montenegro Mack: Meet Dado Polumenta
Thanks to a Europopped reader for sending in this clip by Montenegro's Dado Polumenta. The singer has several wild clips on You Tube, but this one for "Fali Mi Ljubav" from last year might be his best. What's up with the Michael Jackson reference? Also, is there a water shortage in Bijelo Polje, where he lives? Because that girl looks rather thirsty. Anyway, I like this song even if Google translate can't translate Bosnian just yet. Watch Dado do his thing while a lady makes love to a refrigerator below.
Bosnia's Caylana Covers Nicole Scherzinger
There are many European singers who cover U.S. and U.K. pop artists, but few do it well. New singer Caylana, however, is the real deal. This girl can sing. No auto tune needed, as this simple clip of her in the studio demonstrates. Her cover of Nicole Scherzinger's "Don't Hold Your Breath" is fantastic and I'm feeling it tonight. Caylana lives in Germany now and has a team working on her career, which is a good thing. Check it below.
