Mario Winans Goes German, Appears In German Rapper Kay One's New Clip
Hey do you guys remember Mario Winans? You know, the guy who ruled U.S. urban radio circa the late 1990's and early 2000's and is friends with (and has written tracks for/belted out hooks for) P. Diddy? Well, he's lately become a fan of Europe, it seems. We already covered his track with Costi and Andrea ("Mine") from Bulgaria/Romania. Now, he's jumped on a German joint. Except the song might be his and German rapper Kay One was the highest bidder? The tune is "I Need A Girl (part 3)." Mario and Diddy already recorded a hit called "I Need A Girl (part 2) back in 2002....Winans in fact co-wrote the 2-part song "I Need a Girl" with Diddy and then appeared on the "Pt. 2" version with Loon, Ginuwine, and Diddy, which became an urban/pop smash a decade ago. Anyway, he' taking the franchise to Germany now. And Europopped is there to cover the madness (this clip dropped earlier this month). Check it.
Viral Video: A Capella Version Of Daft Punk's "One More Time"
Arguably no electronic music act in the last 15 years from France has had a bigger impact in America than Daft Punk. The duo still looms large in the U.S., despite hardly any new material from the duo. Want proof? Check this new video by a guy named Aaron who, per his bio, "makes a capella/vocal versions of electronic music." It's a really good idea and it especially works well with this song, perhaps Daft Punk's best ever (a certified modern house classic, at this point). Just another fun acapella viral video to add to the europopped collection of acapella awesomeness. Check it.
L.A.'s New 2012 Euro Anthem? Skye Stevens' "Takes All Night"
Who knew one of the best Europop-influenced songs of 2012 was lurking right here in my own backyard (Los Angeles)? This newcomer Skye Stevens might be big someday and he's got a semi-viral hit on You Tube on his hands (with no major label support) at the moment with "Takes All Night." He somehow still is off the proverbial pop radar and I haven't seen many blogs writing about him, yet. This clip was shot in L.A. but it seems like his management/label is out of Minneapolis? Anyway, the sound of this song is straight Euro: with a club feel popularized by producers/songwriters such as Sweden's Max Martin, Shellback (see Usher's "Dj Got Us Fallin' In Love Again") and David Guetta, etc. Not sure who wrote this song, but it's damn good. Check it below. "Takes All Night" hits iTunes officially in about a week.
Snoop Dogg Goes Euro (Again) Via Brighi's "Play Me Like A Violin" (New Clip)
You know which American rapper is always down to guest on a Euro dance track? Snoop Dogg! The d o double gizzle is back in the mix today via a new video alongside Hungarian singer Bridgitta (she was a singer in a Hungarian TV Show called RTL Klub's 'Csillag Születik'). Anyway, "Play Me Like A Violin" is brought to you by Spanish label Blanco y Negro + Hi-Klass music, the same Italian company who were behind The Glam (which featured U.S. rapper Flo Rida). And as we all know, Snoop Dogg has guest rapped on tracks from Russian, German and even Bulgarian artists. If you have money and/or weed, Snoop will appear on your europop, eurodance or eurorap track, people. Spread the word!
Pitbull and Bob Sinclar "Rock The Boat"
Here's a hopeful French summer anthem a bit early, Bob Sinclar's "Rock The Boat." The song features Pitbull, Dragonfly and sadly, Fatman Scoop, who kind of ruins every song he's in with annoying exaltations for no reason. But even Fatman Scoop can't stop this track, which sounds more David Guetta than recent David Guetta and is just a total banger. Great job Bob (one of the biggest names in dance music from France and increasingly the U.S. thanks to his involvement with new Miami club, Amnesia), great job Pitbull and, well, Fatman Scoop, maybe time to stop saying "here we go now," "let's go" and "clap your hands" in every song you rap on? Check the hotness below.
